Subject: Custom model: 221E DMX512 Combine Unit with remote A/B switching via DMX512

The problem described is that a Lutron building control system wants to remotely switch the control of a single universe of DMX512 between its own signal or a Martin Professional controller. We imagine that this is to switch between a static and dynamic show on a group of particular fixtures.

Our proposed solution is to provide our model 221E DMX512 Combine Unit with custom software. The 221E has two inputs labeled “A” and “B”. The Lutron system would plug into the “A” input and the Martin would plug into the “B” input. The software in the 221E would be modified so that channel 512 in the Lutron system would select the use of the “A” or “B” signal. The 221E would no longer operate as a highest takes precedence combiner.

Setting channel 512 of input port “A” to 0% would allow signal “A” to pass to the output

Setting channel 512 of input port “A” to 100% would allow signal “B” to pass to the output

This method requires two presets to be defined in the Lutron to select the “A” or “B” signal
